National Park of Manu

Without doubt one of the richest biological transects of Peru starts in Cusco and travels to the northeast by land and river to the Manu area.

Tambopata National Reserve

While the reserve was created with a philosophy of sustainable use of resources, the park was created to protect the forests. Both units protect some of the last intact tropical forests and lowland rainforests in the Amazon. The forest area contains 1,300 species of birds, 32 species of parrots (10% of world total), 200 species of mammals, 1200 species of butterflies and 10,000 species of vascular plants.

Less than 5000 people, live in the reserve zone of influence northward. They make their living from agriculture and also slash and burn, gold mining on a small scale timber extraction and hunting and fishing. Ese’eja community living within this area of influence. National Park of Pacaya Samiria

Conservation unit in the lowland, for the protection of fauna and flora of the region. It is 180 km. (115 miles) from Iquitos.

It is the largest protected zone in Peru, located at the top of the Maranon and Ucayali, landscapes of exceptional beauty, palm swamps, and backswamp.

This park has the largest protected area in Peru and also the largest flooded area of tropical forests in Peru. Within this forest there is a great biological diversity. Recommended for birdwatchers.
